Following closely is a secretary's ability to get work donw without close supervision. For example, if your manager is out of the office for 2 days every week and in meetings for much of the other three days, you will be relying on records, procedures and past experience to guide what is done. To do it successfully, breakdown your responsibilities into these 4 task areas:
1. Completing daily routine chores
2. Setting up schedule for special assignments and major projects.
3. Maintaining files and records that are kept permanently or for a defined period of time.
4. Managing office supplies and resources.
Other task areas may also be assigned to you. You may be asked to manage certain business accounts, making sure money is deposited into them and that bills get paid on time.
